Welcome to the LTUE 2021 International Film Festival Screenings Part 1 (Short Films).

You can start watching the full festival at 20 minutes into the RAW stream. You can also jump to a specific film by moving the time slider to the point in the stream where that film starts. For example, the time slider below shows the position where the short film “Rahak” starts.

Please check back for the upcoming Part 2 (Feature Films) of the LTUE 2021 film festival. We will screen a few other short films and a number of Feature length films. There just wasn’t enough time during the symposium to screen all the great films that we found.
All of the films that were screened during the symposium (Part 1) are “Shorts.” The longest running is about 30 minutes. Here are the summary descriptions and links where you can (for the next month) watch these films.

Of Dice and Men (Canada)
A group of adventurers discover the evil that plagues them might be otherworldly.

Rehak (United Kingdom)
Can a pencil drawing on the wall help overcome the Generation gap?
A young girl named Lilly, in her age of innocence discovers Rehak, a magical pencil drawing hidden behind the cracking paint on her bedroom wall.

Biji (Malaysia)
Set in a rain forest full of squarish plants controlled by the Mother Tree. Biji, a round seed is different. He wants to express his own style through dancing. He is rejected and controlled by the Mother Tree until they lose their color.
Biji struggles and discovers that each of the seeds are different. He helps heal the mother plant and helps the others become what they wanted to be.

Something Witchy (Norway)
Two young witches who have nothing in common decide to study magic in the North… and will have to live together! Sometimes the outside problems help us unite.

Milly and the Roots (Columbia/United States)
A happy little girl Milly loves planting seeds, watching vegetables grow, and playing with her new friend, Aamira. When Aamira’s mother comes to get Aamira, Milly is scared because she can’t see Aamira’s mother’s face because of her “head cloth”!
Milly is led on an exciting adventure with her imaginary root vegetable friends and learns to like others different from her.

Aftermath Restoration (Ethiopia)
This animation was done as a symbol of healing and coming back to life after a disaster. It is the “Mustang” equivalent of the Phoenix rising out of the ashes.

Crunch (United States)
Crunch” is a sci-fi comedy 3D animation. In the morning a little, short guy named Bob, on his first day working in the space agency watches a spaceship launch. Bob is hit by a mysterious lightning bolt and starts growing bigger . . . and bigger. It seems there is no way to stop…

It’s Better There (Iraq)
Very symbolic of not giving up or giving in before life begins. This shows many symbolic roadblocks in life. It shows many places where we could get caught, trapped or mislead. Most importantly, it shows that sometimes we have to make our own path, climb the mountains, overcome, and reach the heights we were individually meant to reach before our final breath.

Our World (Columbia)
A beautifully done love story set in a mental institute, where Dave and Sarah seek to create an imaginary world to escape and heal from the pain of their reality.

My Side of the Fence (United States)
A brilliantly done and (intended) humorous commentary about a forbidden love story set in a highly restrictive dystopian pandemic world.

Someone (Brazil)
Lilian is awakened during the night to sleep one more night with her little daughter, Julia. Something macabre seems to be chasing her. Is there someone else in the child’s room? What prevents nights of peaceful sleep for Lilian from ever happening again?

Tim Travel

One city’s attempt to keep up with Roswell NM. Set in 2004 Texas, a group of filmmakers capture the staging of a UFO Hoax to help make it look real and put the city of Nemeku on the map. Note: Has a few cuss words, but the few F-bombs are bleeped out.

Where Smoke Rises (Hawaii)
Pua ka uahi is a wonder-filled Indigenous animation following Pele, a hot tempered fire goddess, who has been challenged by the shapeshifting trickster Kamapuaʻa in a race from Puna to Hilo. Pele traverses through the land and helps a few friends along the way. Will she win, or will she enjoy the journey even if it means losing the race?
